THE NEW CASA PERFORMANCE ‘PLUS20’ REAR SUSPENSION SPRING With the advent of all the tuning and performance upgrades for smallframe Lambretta models now available, such as the CPOne35, CPOne05 and GT110 kits, perhaps the only piece of the puzzle that still needed attention was the safety factor?
With the availability of these kits now making smallframe Lambrettas much more desirable, and above all useable in modern day traffic conditions, the dramatic increase in acceleration and speed now possible highlighted the need for better, and improved suspension. Whilst upgraded suspension units are readily available for Luna Line machines, there was still not much on the market for J Range Lambretta models.
The main reason for this is the unique rear suspension set-up these scooters have, with separate spring and shocker units. Also, J50s use a shorter rear suspension spring than Cento 100 / J125 / Starstream models. When you then take into account that early-production J50s also have diminutive 9 inch wheels as standard, and the increased volume of the ‘Maxibox’ recommended for the CP kits, ground clearance becomes an issue.
Fitting a longer Cento / J125 / Starstream rear suspension spring to a J50 can help gain clearance and improve handling, but these springs are not remade by anyone and are difficult to find. Even if you are lucky enough to have fitted such a spring, they were originally manufactured over half a century ago and certainly not designed for the use they are being subjected to in modern day.
For these reasons, Casa Performance designed and manufactured the all-new ‘Plus20’ rear suspension spring for all J Range models, tuned or not. The ‘Plus20’ springs are the same length as the Cento / J125 / Starstream rear suspension springs, but importantly, as their name says, they are 20% stronger than original Innocenti-made springs. Finished in black, they are a direct replacement for any J Range spring, fitted to any J range model, regardless of engine capacity. The advantages of the ‘Plus20’ springs are that you will have much better ground clearance, especially when cornering or riding with a pillion, and increased machine control at all speeds.
